  • A Visual History of the English Bible by Donald L. Brake brings to life the story of the Bible's transformation from medieval manuscripts read only by clergy to a bestseller widely available in contemporary languages. At one time, there was an argument that if the common folk started reading the Bible on their own, it would surely lead to religious anarchy. This book contains over 100 beautiful full color illustrations that complement the easy-to-read layout. Check it out from the Book Corner.
BOOK REVIEW by Ken Cressman: "The Chicago Healer" by Paul H. BogeWhat would happen in our society if one person could heal others? Who would want the healing stopped and why? What would governments do? What could happen to people's beliefs? These and other questions are dealt with in Paul Boge's story of Lucas Stephens who emerges, after time in a Chinese prison, with the ability to heal others. A Best New Canadian Author Award, 2003 This book as well as its sequel are available in the Book Corner in Iona Hall during coffee hour.
BOOK REVIEW by Jan Blackburn: "Mama Panya's Pancakes" is a children's tale from Kenya about the rewards of sharing.Mama Panya has barely enough money to buy supplies for pancakes for herself and her son, Adika. When Adika invites many of his friends to come and taste these delicious pancakes she is very worried. But Adika knows it will be OK. Truly a Shrove Tuesday offering.
BOOK REVIEW by Sylvia Stewart: "I Grew Up Little" is Patsy Clairmont's amazing story about her journey from high school dropout to teen mother to agrophobic to author and keynote speaker. It delivers a powerful message of hope and possibility to women of all ages.
BOOK REVIEW by Penny Cressman: " THREE CUPS OF TEA " is a prize- winning, bestseller account of one man's mission to better the world and promote peace by building schools in the impoverished northern regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. As a boundless adventurer returning from an attempt to climb K2 in 1993, Greg Mortenson stumbled into the village of Korphe and vowed to return their kindness by building them a school. Since then he has built 55 schools, for the girls as well as the boys - all this in the dangerous territory which gave birth to the Taliban. This book tells us again that one man or one woman CAN make a difference in this world.
All available in the Book Corner in Iona Hall.
