POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Minister of Pastoral Care
| PURPOSE/RESPONSIBILITIES/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
|
- provide pastoral care and support to the congregation in the following ways:
- visitation and pastoral care to the sick, elderly and homebound in hospitals, nursing homes and private homes
- visitation and pastoral care to persons in time of crisis
- training and equipping members of St. Andrew's to assist in all aspects of visitation and pastoral care
- working in consultation with the Stephen Ministry, VIP, Outreach Committees and Prayer Group to keep the ministries of these groups healthy and active
- work collegially with the Minister of Preaching and Worship to promote and maintain the overall health, vitality, mission and witness of St. Andrews
- provide vision and leadership for the congregation in conjunction with the Christian Education Committee, Camp Committee, Minister of Preaching and Worship and program staff
- contribute to the worship life of the congregation including:
- conducting weddings and funerals on a rotating basis with the Minister of Preaching and Worship (there will be flexibility in this schedule according to requests of members}
- preaching at two evening services per month and one non-televised service every four to six weeks

| SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

What additional qualifications, if any, are essential in this position such as education, experience, certification. |
- an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church in Canada
- deep and vibrant personal faith
- sound theological education and relevant experience in pastoral counselling, with postgraduate or continuing educational studies in the field
- excellent pastoral and visiting skills
- skill in teaching, supporting, encouraging and fostering lay ministry
- strong communication skills
- sense of humour
- adept at working with a large and diverse congregation
- ability to work in a team setting

| COMPENSATION

| The new compensation package is subject to negotiation with the Session. |
| OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
|
| In addition to the above, the Session agrees to: |
- provide two weeks study leave annually, and to provide $750.00 per year toward the cost;
(benefits of study leave are cumulative up to five years)
- provide five weeks holiday annually
- pay the premiums of the Presbytery Group Insurance Plan
- pay 50% of the premiums of the St. Andrew's Medical-Dental Insurance
- pay moving costs
- in case of disability or extended illness, to continue to provide stipend, accommodation and allowances for a period not less than that set by the General Assembly

| Note: St. Andrew's pay schedule is bi-weekly.
