Opening Doors for Youth![]()

SOLO HOUSE SOLO HOUSE is an extension of Family and Childrens Services of Waterloo Region. The SOLO program prepares youth for independent living by teaching basic living skills: budgeting, job searching, apartment hunting, cooking, health care, etc.
A Youth In Care social network has been organized which brings the youth (ages 15 21) together for regular social and recreational activities. There is also a support network in place to help the young people who have been through the SOLO program and are now living independently.
St. Andrews has played an important role in the SOLO program in recent years. Our congregation has provided a home to the SOLO program by offering them 11 Roy Street house rent-free. At Christmas, a gift is given to each of the 40 youth in the SOLO program from St. Andrews. On occasion, our church facilities are also made available for special SOLO activities. The Three Tenors concert last winter helped raise money for the SOLO House Contingency Fund.
St. Andrews shows its commitment to youth in our community through its support of this worthwhile program.
