Since 1979 Visitor in the Parish volunteers at St Andrew's have been sharing in this rich and rewarding ministry of visitation. It was introduced to St. Andrew's by Isabel Yeates who mentored volunteers and convened the program for many years. All our convenors have supported St. Andrew's Visitors by organizing quarterly meetings, inviting guest speaker’s to address topics of interest and matching volunteers with members who can no longer come out to church. Our current convenor is Mrs. Margaret Lewis.
The Visitor in the Parish program was re-named this year and is currently called The Friendly Neighbours and is a important component of our congregation's ministry of pastoral care. The most important role of the Friendly Neighbour volunteer is helping the visited member maintain a place in the life of the congregation. This program fosters strong friendships and through this program our members who can no longer take an active part in the congregation are assured that they are still a significant and valuable member of St. Andrew's. For this reason the Friendly Neighbour volunteer is a vital extension of the life of the congregation for those who are home-bound.
If you would like to become a Friendly Neighbour or if you would like to have a member of this group visit you, please contact Mrs. Margaret Lewis at 519-570-3401.
